A greener, more sustainable business is not only good for the planet but also your bottom line. For one thing, conscious consumers prefer to spend their money with businesses that promote sustainability. Also, making key, conscious choices can save your business money. This year, resolve to change the way you operate your business to make it greener and more sustainable.

Use Sustainable Products

Stocking your office with recycled paper and other recycled and sustainable products helps to support the environment. Use paper products made with post- or pre-consumer waste.

You can also choose boxes and packing material made from recycled paper or sustainable bamboo or hemp. Not only does this save trees, but it also impresses your customers.

It’s also important to use non-toxic, natural cleaning products. They’re just as effective and will keep these pollutants out of the environment. Moreover, using natural, non-toxic cleaning products will keep your employees and visitors healthier.

Compost Your Food Waste

This tip primarily applies to restaurants and grocery stores, but any business can begin composting. Many cities now provide special bins for municipal composting. If your town or city has such a program, sign your business up.

If your city doesn’t have a composting program, you could do it yourself. However, zoning regulations may prohibit it at your location. Also, making compost is something of an art, and someone knowledgeable needs to be responsible for it. But, if your business has landscaping, compost can benefit it.

Participate in Recycling

Most cities provide special trash bins for recycling programs. Make sure that your employees put recyclable materials into these bins. It’s not hard to recycle things like paper, cardboard, aluminum, and plastic.

If your city doesn’t have such a program, you can also find recycling companies, like Mid America Paper Recycling Co, that offer recycling programs. You can work with a recycling company to develop a recycling plan for your business. This is especially important if you accumulate a lot of larger waste that can’t be easily dumped in a waste basket.

If your office is remodeling, be sure to recycle that waste too. Donating used office furniture and other items to charity is another form of recycling. By doing this, you’ll keep these materials out of the landfill, giving them a second life.

Donate to Environmental Charities

Donating a portion of your sales is socially responsible, but it’s also good business. When customers see that you donate a portion of your sales to the environment, they’ll feel good about buying your product or service. It’s a win-win proposal that helps both your business and the environment.

Businesses and companies can have an enormous impact on the environment. Do your part to make sure your business’s impact is a positive one. These are just a few simple suggestions to boost both your business and its sustainability. You can find plenty more ideas with just a little research or start brainstorming your own.
