When homeowners are looking to boost the value of their home, they often start thinking about indoor projects first, which is understandable. However, indoor home improvements often end up being lengthy and expensive projects. Instead, perhaps you should think outside of the box — or rather, outside of the house. Curb appeal plays a big role in home value, so attention to the outdoor areas of the home should take equal priority when you’re boosting the overall value of the home.

Build a New Deck

Oftentimes the deck is one of the first things people see when they visit your home, so do it right and make that good first impression. Decks help to enhance the look of the home, and they also increase the home’s functional space, which makes this a valuable project. If you already have an existing deck, give it some maintenance to keep it in good condition. The longer it lasts, the more valuable it is to your home.

Add a Nice Shed

A new shed can also increase the value of the home while adding functional space. At its barest level, it is great for storing such items as tools, mowers, snow blowers, and plow blades, which frees up valuable garage space. However, sheds can also serve other purposes too. Some DIYers enjoy doing projects in their shed. It can even serve as a playhouse or a den outside the house.

Create a Pathway

Connecting outdoor areas with pavers is inexpensive, and really adds a flair to the area. Pavers are attractive, strong, and durable. If you have a masonry saw, you can use it to cut your own pavers to suit the positioning of the stones.

Put a Gazebo in the Backyard

A gazebo can add a bit of charm and grace to an otherwise open or empty expanse behind the home. It is a very pleasant area to relax in at any time of day, as the closed roof offers welcome shade on a hot day or cover on a drizzly day. Pavers between the gazebo and the back deck make for a really nice touch.

You can also enhance the gazebo by putting up lattice screening around it. This can add a tasteful touch while also adding a bit more privacy for those relaxing in the gazebo.

Add a Vegetable Garden

A garden with a variety of different vegetables can add a lot of color and personality to the backyard area. And of course, when the vegetables get ripe, they make for terrific additions at the dinner table. It’s also a fun and fulfilling project that gardeners really enjoy working on. Many people want to add vegetable gardens, so seeing a space already cleared and ready to be planted can draw in buyers.

With a little bit of creativity, foresight, and hard work, your otherwise plain and ordinary outdoor living space can be turned into a showplace, an investment that may more than pay for itself somewhere down the line.
